Book Review: Anna Karenina

I started this book in January and I just finished it yesterday. Let me begin by telling you that I love reading and it has never taken me 4 months to finish a book before. I'm sure some of the blame can be placed on me moving and being to busy to read, but it was mostly just me not wanting to read it. It was just so slow.
I think my biggest disappointment in this book is that it could have been so good. The plot and premise of this book have the makings of a real page turner, but the writing just lacked emotion. I'm not sure if that is typical of Russian literature in the late 1800s, or if the emotion was just lost in translation (literally).
I'm just relieved to have finally finished this book. I wanted to stop and read something else, but I've only not finished a book once and it still bothers me to this day. So I couldn't quit, I had to finish it. I wont go so far as to tell you not to read it, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. It is a classic, and Leo Tolstoy is considered a great writer, so there must be people out there that enjoy this book. I'm just not one of them.
